Moog Subsequent 37 Analogue Synthesiser — Overview, Key Features, and Recommended Accessories

Overview

The Moog Subsequent 37 is a 2-note paraphonic analogue synthesiser designed for hands-on sound design and performance. It combines a tactile control surface with a redesigned sound engine, arpeggiator/sequencer, and expanded connectivity for studio and stage workflows. Ideal for both experienced synthesists and those new to analogue synthesis, this instrument excels across various genres, from electronic and ambient to modern pop and rock.

Key Features

  • Powerful paraphonic analogue synthesiser with Mono and Duo modes

  • 37 velocity-sensitive keys with responsive action and aftertouch

  • Classic Moog ladder filter with selectable filter slopes

  • Syncable arpeggiator and step sequencer for performance workflows

  • Redesigned sound engine delivering rich low-end and clear highs

  • Intuitive panel with 74 tactile switches and 40 control knobs

  • 256 presets across 16 banks (16 patches per bank)

Sound and Control

At its core, the Subsequent 37 features two analogue oscillators alongside a sub oscillator, noise generator, and external input/filter feedback. The filter section is built around the Moog ladder filter, with selectable slopes and a musical response suited to both classic subtractive sounds and modern performance patching.

The modulation architecture includes two modulation busses with assignable sources and destinations, enabling dynamic movement and expressive control. The synth also supports DAHDSR looping envelopes (Delay, Attack, Hold, Decay, Sustain, Release) for detailed shaping and evolving modulation patterns.

Connectivity and Integration

The Subsequent 37 supports modern hybrid rigs through:

  • MIDI I/O: DIN In/Out and MIDI over USB

  • CV/Gate inputs: Filter CV, Pitch CV, Volume CV, KB Gate

  • Audio I/O: 1x TS input, 1x TS output, 1x TRS headphone output

This makes it suitable for DAW-based studios, hardware-only setups, and CV-capable systems.
